Margaret Waugh (Baroque ‘cello) is a graduate of the New South Wales State Conservatorium, of Music in Sydney, where she studied ‘cello with John Painter and Barbara Woolley. In the mid-1980’s she undertook postgraduate work in harpsichord and Baroque studies with Anthony Jennings at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. Margaret has performed in Australia with numerous Early Music ensembles, for festivals such as the Festival of Sydney, the Melbourne International Festival of Organ and Harpsichord, Melbourne’s Moomba Festival, the Newcastle Keyboard Festival and Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

In 1995 Margaret Waugh was continuo cellist for the Australian Opera’s production of Handel’s ‘Julius Caesar’ with Graham Pushee and Yvonne Kenny, and later that year performed at the Melbourne International Festival in recital with countertenors Derek Lee-Ragin and Brian Asawa. In March 1998 Margaret Waugh played in Japan appearing with Derek Lee-Ragin and core members of the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra.

Margaret Waugh has appeared as principal cellist with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra on ABC Classics’ recording of Handel arias featuring Graham Pushee (1994) and Yvonne Kenny (1998), and has played with the ABO since its inception in 1988.
