Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier sequenced by key

A new 4-CD set from pianist Ian Holtham entitled BACH'S TONAL SOUNDSCAPE presents the complete Well-Tempered Clavier grouped by key rather than the usual numbered order. The set includes a 20 page booklet featuring an extensive essay detailing Holtham's approach to the music. The 264 minutes on the four discs is now available for the special price of just $50.

Ian Holtham’s unique approach to Bach’s monumental Well Tempered Clavier provides the listener with the opportunity to hear the preludes and organised by key rather than the traditional and more artificial order by volume.

By performing the related works from both Books I and II together, Holtham demonstrates Bach’s extraordinary tonal landscape in an easily manageable way and so reveals the way Bach reflects on the concept of key. In so doing, Holtham illustrates the manner in which Bach’s genius and tonal landscape foregrounds the development of classical music of the subsequent centuries.
