Philip Nixon

Philip Nixon is a member of Orchestra Victoria, and has worked as a freelance musician with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, the Tasmanian Symphony and the Queensland Symphony.

He has given Australian premieres of works by composers as diverse as Klement Slavicky, John Exton, Hayden Reeder and Marcel Dupré. With his wife, the pianist and organist Elizabeth-Anne Nixon he has performed in recital in Australia, Canada and Italy with repertoire ranging from Bach to Schoenberg and Lutoslawski.

Philip studied violin in Australia with Elizabeth Morgan and Jan Sedivka, in the UK with David Takeno, at the University of Toronto with Lorand Fenyves and briefly as a teenager with Syoko Aki. Postgraduate study was supported by the Tsung Family Foundation, the E.V. Llewellyn Memorial Fund and a Canadian Commonwealth scholarship. He has lived in Melbourne since 2001.
