Andrew Pendlebury
Andrew Pendlebury is a guitarist-songwriter whose playing slips between rock, country swing, bluegrass and jazz. On bush-song sessions his guitars stay spare and supportive, keeping the stories and voices clear.
He came up through Melbourne bands including The Sports, where he co-wrote with Stephen Cummings, and later the gospel-tinged Slaughtermen. Solo albums such as Between the Horizon and the Dockyard and the ARIA-winning Don't Hold Back That Feeling draw on country, Spanish colour and adult-contemporary song forms, often with guest singers. With Mark Ferrie and cellist Adi Sappir in The Mercurials he has pursued intimate twin-guitar and chamber textures for gallery and festival stages, a specialised path that favours the song over the spotlight.
