Australia's longest-running classical music label

Whether it's recording on location or in the studio, burning CDs, or giving your music that professional touch, Move Records can take care of it.

Studio manager Martin Wright has had forty years experience in the recording industry and is recognised Australia-wide for his excellent recordings. He is also supported by studio engineers Vaughan McAlley (also an experienced performer and composer), Blake Stickland and Rhys Boak (an organist).

We can take care of the whole process from recording, editing, design, manufacture and packaging — efficiently, economically and easily — whatever your needs or budget!

Enjoy the luxury of a spacious natural acoustic studio ideal for all music styles, complete with a Yamaha C7 grand piano — hand-chosen by jazz/classical pianist Tony Gould and described by the Australia Council's Music Forum as "a gorgeous instrument ... a warmth of timbre which is sometimes not available in studio instruments."

Recording costs and block booking

Recording costs $90 per hour or $100 per hour with grand piano. This includes an engineer and GST. Block bookings for the studio are available for more ambitious projects, at the special reduced rate of $600 per day (or $650 with piano). A day is usually defined as up to eight hours.

Rehearsing

The studio is available for rehearsal for $50 per hour (including GST).

Location recording

We can also record on location on two or four channels. On-location work is $100 per hour.

Recording Equipment

Only state-of-the-art, top quality recording equipment is used, based around the latest Digidesign ProTools HD 24-bit 192kHz hard disk recording setup and a matching MIDI-controlled 8-channel Focusrite mic preamp. Monitoring is through the Tannoy System 1000.

Equipment includes the following small diaphragm microphones, many of them renowned for their ruler-flat frequency response:

  • 2 x Sennheiser MKH 20 (omnidirectional)
  • 2 x Sennheiser MKH 40 (cardioid) MKH 406
  • 2 x Sennheiser MKH 406 (cardioid)
  • 2 x Schoeps MK2/CCM2 combi (omnidirectional)

Plus the following large diaphragm condenser microphones:

  • 2 x AudioTechnica 4050 (multi-pattern, omni/cardioid/figure of 8)

A headphone monitoring system (with effects) is also at your disposal.

Editing and Mastering

Digital mixing, editing and multi-track facilities are available using ProTools HD, with a full complement of quality TDM plug-ins including those from Digidesign and a complete set of Waves plug-ins (reverbs, EQ, compression, noise reduction, imaging, effects) plus an outboard Aphex Aural Exciter.

Mastering can be done in-house using a variety of Digidesign platforms, depending on the application. For CD mastering, we use MasterList, Wave Burner or Toast software to ensure full flexibility to fine-tune master CDs.

Both editing and mastering cost only $90 per hour (including GST).
