Elton Sun

Tianyi (Elton) Sun was born in Shanghai and began learning piano when he was 5 years old. Since arriving in Melbourne with his family in 2017 he has been studying piano with Betty Vergara-Pink. He was honoured to have been asked by Haydn Reeder to record some of the little studies on this CD when he was 12 years of age.

Elton is currently a student at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School in Melbourne. He has participated in numerous competitions and won many awards including first place in the 2022 Des Stevenson Award from the Musical Society of Victoria (12 years and under) and first place in the 2022 Ringwood Eisteddfod Piano Competition (Open section).

In 2023 he received 2nd prize in the Boroondara Eisteddfod Open Piano Concerto Award and in 2024, he won the Young Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition in Brisbane, performing the first movement of Grieg’s Piano Concerto with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

Elton has a love of music and he enjoys performing. He has a wide range of other interests and hobbies. He has been studying cello since the age of 9, and he also loves mathematics, tennis, the Rubik's Cube, and chess. His current wish is to visit the European countries where his favourite composers lived.
