Andrew Chubb
Andrew Chubb is a pianist drawn to contemporary minimalism, especially the solo piano cycles of Philip Glass, and to large-scale works such as Hans Otte’s The Book of Sounds. He also writes for the instrument, including Meditation at Bar Beach.
By the mid-2000s he had given public performances of Glass’s main published solo piano cycle in Newcastle, Brisbane and further afield. In 2007 he gave the Australian premiere of Otte’s seventy-five-minute Book of Sounds on a Stuart and Sons piano, pairing it with the world premiere of his own Meditation at Bar Beach. That piece later sat at the centre of Bar Beach...Beyond the Sea, a collaboration with photographer Allan Chawner. His scores are issued by Wirripang and have been heard in Australia, Canada and Europe.
