John Sangster’s Meditation, first issued on vinyl around 1980, is an ethereal set of flute, wind-chime and marimba textures. Over three long pieces the music builds a serene, otherworldly atmosphere meant for quiet listening.

The Green Brain Cycle

Michael Kieran Harvey’s ninety-two-minute multi-instrument solo cycle draws on Frank Herbert’s 1966 ecological novel The Green Brain, pairing intense keyboard writing with Arjun von Caemmerer’s concrete poetry and spoken passages.

In Stack, Ros Bandt turns Melbourne’s CityLink exhaust chimney into a living instrument. Site recordings, electrified steel and unusual acoustic sources become a sixty-minute electroacoustic portrait of an industrial space now silenced.

Colin Offord's Pacific Sound presents musical landscapes built from everyday objects and his own invented instruments of metal, bamboo, timber, bells and shells, evoking oceans, wind, rain and Pacific wildlife.

Stargazer

Ros Bandt explores the resonance of a large hollow concrete cylinder five storeys underground in the Collins Place car park, Melbourne. Stargazer gathers improvisations and compositions for recorders, psaltery, bells, cymbals, kalimba, PVC pipe and music boxes, shaped by that vibrating space.

Clay Music

Four Melbourne composer-performers as LIME open the 1985 national ceramic conference on Judy Lorraine’s pottery and their own handmade percussion—glass Flagong, marimbas, Farmarimba and plumbaphone.

Glass & Clay

Ros Bandt, the internationally acclaimed sound artist, composer, performer and sound sculptor, shapes subtle, shimmering sonorities from glass and clay. The programme includes Soft and Fragile, first issued on LP in 1983.

Improvisations in Acoustic Chambers

Environmental composer Ros Bandt’s first vinyl LP is now available on CD. She works with the sonorities of man-made chambers — a water tank and a wheat silo — where bamboo flute, recorders, lute and voice reverberate. It may sound electronic, but is entirely natural.

This first collection of concert works by Felicity Wilcox gathers the cream of her chamber music from 2014 to 2018. It opens with the celebrated bass clarinet solo People of this Place, written for Jason Noble, and includes commissions for Ensemble Offspring, Ironwood and the Australia Ensemble, plus a movement from her first string quartet.

Spirit Wind

Flautist Derek Jones presents seven free-flowing improvisations inspired by a universal spirit shared across musical cultures, layering flute lines over synthesiser soundscapes, drones and deep gamelan-like bells.

Clairaudient

This is percussionist Claire Edwardes’ fifth CD. Clairaudience is clear hearing, or the ability to perceive sound from outside sources, often in the spirit world. Psychics who are clairaudient hear voices, sounds or music that are not audible to the normal ear.

Elegy: Reflections on the music of Peter Tahourdin

A companion to the Australian composer's other Move CD Exposé, this album showcases solo pieces for cello and flute, electronic scores, and small ensemble works.

Patañjali

This CD and performance DVD celebrates Patañjali’s Yoga-Sūtra in music and āsana (2015). Michael Kieran Harvey composed the score and plays keyboards, with Arabella Teniswood-Harvey (piano) and Eugene Ughetti (percussion).

Piano Inside Out

Internationally acclaimed Australian pianist Zubin Kanga releases his first CD with Move Records, Piano Inside Out. It presents seven innovative solo piano works by Australian composers, commissioned by Kanga and shaped in close collaboration with him over several years.

Kinetic Conversations

A set of free improvisations by composer–pianist Keith Humble and American double-bass virtuoso Bertram Turetzky, taped in 1986. Two new-music pioneers meet in spontaneous, high-energy dialogue for piano and bass.

Elektra

Australian piano music by Helen Gifford, Tony Gould, Andrew Ford, Julian Yu and Michael Kieran Harvey. The title work, Elektra, extends acoustic piano sound through computer processing, in a collaboration with sound engineer Michael Hewes, who shaped the instrument’s resonances in real time.

Like the group's earlier releases, this disc ranges across electronic and electro-acoustic music, contemporary chamber writing, interactive computer pieces, open indeterminate works and improvisation.

KAPPA

Italian chamber group Trio Altrove 1.3 joins six Australian composers of contemporary classical music – Steve Adam, Melanie Chilianis, Brendan Colbert, Philip Czaplowski, Paul Moulatlet and Thomas Reiner – in a programme of works written or arranged for the ensemble.

Conversations

The recording of Conversations is an outcome of a research project at Monash University’s School of Music. Six composers worked with performers to shape this electro-acoustic piece, joining team-based composition, contemporary performance practice, and music technology.

Hard Chamber

A retrospective of chamber works by Melbourne contemporary composer Thomas Reiner, written for varied small forces. Soloists from Monash University and ensemble re-sound present music that asks for close, unconditioned listening.

Melbourne ensemble re-sound gives Terry Riley's minimalist landmark In C its first electroacoustic reading, folding chamber forces into beats, sequences and electric bass and guitar.

Devils of the Night

On this, his first CD for Move Records, Tasmanian composer and didjeridu virtuoso Ron Nagorcka is joined by long-time collaborator Robert Williams, the Melbourne pianist, educator and co-composer.

Quivering String

Passage

Tony Lewis composed these scores for the Aboriginal Islander Dance Theatre between 1986 and 1988. Commissioned for contemporary dance works, they explore meeting points between Aboriginal and European societies and how Aboriginal people engage with modern Australia.
