A retrospective of chamber works by Melbourne contemporary composer Thomas Reiner, written for varied small forces. Soloists from Monash University and ensemble re-sound present music that asks for close, unconditioned listening.

The opening Highett Pointillism was selected for Australia's submission to the 2005 ISCM World Music Days. Across the disc, live instruments meet fixed media and spare textures that reward patient hearing.
As the title suggests, the music on this CD is not for easy listening ... if there were such a thing as a perfect listening strategy for my compositions, then it would have to be one that avoids traditional expectations of what constitutes music and instead encourages the sort of mindful and unconditioned listening that allows for the enjoyment of sounds and sound structures in their own right.

Artistic Director of the ensemble re-sound, Thomas Reiner has received numerous awards for his compositions, including second prize in the International Witold Lutosławski Composers' Competition for Two Movements for Orchestra, the Dorian Le Gallienne Award, and the Albert H. Maggs Composition Award.
