Angela Davis
Angela Davis is an Australian saxophonist whose pure tone recalls Lee Konitz, Art Pepper and Paul Desmond. She favours melody and unforced invention, whether in jazz groups or improvised readings of classical scores.
With the Tony Gould Trio she answers scored chamber versions of Bach, Fauré, Satie, Piazzolla and Schumann with concise jazz variants: liberal on the harmony, light on drama, and always close to the tune. The same calm melodic focus shapes her own recorded work.

Crossing Paths
Ensemble Liaison and the Tony Gould Trio take turns across the programme: each piece is heard first in a scored reading, then in an improvised jazz response that opens the same melodic and harmonic material to fresh colour.
