Barry Humphries
Barry Humphries (1934–2023) was an Australian comedian, actor, author and satirist. He was best known for writing and performing his stage and television characters Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson.
Born in Melbourne, he built an international career from one-man satirical revues in which monologue, song and audience sparring turned suburban types into lasting figures of Australian comedy. Dame Edna began as a Moonee Ponds housewife and grew into a gaudy, acid-tongued satire of fame; Sir Les Patterson and the gentle Sandy Stone rounded out a gallery that held the stage for more than sixty years.
On Move he appears as a performer in the restored ABC children’s series Sebastian’s Greatest Adventure (MD 3346), starring in the original-soundtrack episode The Painter.
