Franz Lehár
Franz Lehár (1870–1948) was an Austro-Hungarian composer best known for his operettas. His most celebrated work is The Merry Widow, and songs from his stage works remain widely performed.
Individual numbers from the operettas have become lasting standards, among them Vilja from The Merry Widow and You Are My Heart's Delight (Dein ist mein ganzes Herz) from The Land of Smiles.
He also wrote waltzes, marches, sonatas and symphonic poems, and later stage works such as Giuditta that sit closer to opera than to operetta.
