Frederic Weatherly
Frederic Weatherly (1848–1929) was an English lawyer, author and lyricist. He wrote the words to thousands of popular songs, among them the sentimental ballad Danny Boy.
Among his best-known lyrics are the religious song The Holy City and the wartime ballad Roses of Picardy. He also made English versions of Italian opera and practised as a barrister beside his songwriting, becoming a King’s Counsel in 1926. On this catalogue he is credited as songwriter, including for Danny Boy on Amy Castles: Court Singer (MCD 559).
