Graeme Ellis
Graeme Ellis (b. 1944) is a Melbourne-born poet whose verse has been set in contemporary Australian art song.
His words form the text of the song cycle Fortune My Foe (MCD 435), a charity recording for soprano and piano that pairs his poetry with newly written music.
Ellis’s Seven Tanka, cast in the five-line Japanese form and sparked by hearing an earlier song-cycle performance, appear on The Prospect and Bower of Bliss (TP240), set for two sopranos with percussion and shakuhachi. The poems share with that disc’s companion cycle a vivid sense of nature, intimacy and emotional immediacy.
