Gregers Brinch
Composer Gregers Brinch was born in Denmark. His music has been heard throughout Europe.
Gregers Brinch draws inspiration from the expressive qualities of musical intervals, a commitment to tonality, and the timbre of voices and instruments, which he experiences as concentrated forms of human soul-expression. His compositions invite anticipation while also challenging the listener, shaped by an interplay between the composer and what he describes as “the will of the piece itself.” His tonal language is a synthesis of many musical genres.
A lifelong passion for drama also informs his work. Before devoting himself fully to composition at the age of 20, he performed in several Shakespeare plays, including Macbeth at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and later played Peer in Ibsen’s Peer Gynt. His native Denmark, with its wide beaches and rolling dunes, fostered a lasting love of nature and birds, elements that subtly influence his music.
He studied composition with Elmar Lampson in Hamburg, graduating with diplomas in composition and piano in 1992. His works have been performed across the UK (including Wigmore Hall), Denmark, Germany, Italy, France, and Australia. He is a founder member and artistic director of the International Concert Series at Rudolf Steiner House in London, and several CDs of his music have been released on Claudio Records and the Navona label.
