John Bull
John Bull (1562/63–1628) was an English composer, organist and virginalist of the late Renaissance. He was a renowned keyboard performer, and most of his surviving music is for the virginal and organ.
He served as organist of the Chapel Royal and became the first professor of music at Gresham College. A celebrated improviser, he left a substantial body of keyboard music at the heart of the English virginalist school.
His Dorick Fantasy No. 1 is heard on Lady Sings the Viol (MCD 481), and a Preludium appears on The Remarkable Norman Kaye (MD 3316).
