John Gardner

John Gardner (1917–2011) was an English composer of classical music. His carol Tomorrow shall be my dancing day has become a familiar part of the Christmas choral repertoire.

Born in Manchester and educated at Oxford, he wrote across a wide range of forms, from symphony and chamber music to church anthems and carols. The setting of Tomorrow shall be my dancing day, with its lively compound metre and bright choral writing, is the work by which he is most widely known, and it appears on Australian seasonal programmes such as Christmas Day (TP046) and Carols Psalms and Anthems (MCD 050).
