Lyndon Gray

Lyndon Gray is a South Australian bassist and composer, noted for versatile, adaptable playing in jazz and free improvisation.

On For Ever (MD 3394) he joins a programme of spontaneous solo, duo and trio improvisations in tribute to Australian jazz figures who had passed. The bass writing and playing lean on robust polyphonic smears and right-hand strumming, answering each dedicatee’s spirit rather than copying a style.

The idea for this recording came about after the Alan Lee Quartet reunion concert on the closing night of the 2014 Stonnington Festival in Melbourne, which saw the vibraphonist in collaboration with old friends Ted Vining, Tony Gould and Derek Capewell.
