Moritz Moszkowski
Moritz Moszkowski (1854–1925) was a German-Polish composer, pianist and teacher. His brilliant piano writing made him one of the most popular musicians of the late nineteenth century.
He wrote more than two hundred small-scale piano pieces that once filled salons and concert encores. The set of Spanish Dances, Op. 12, for piano duet remains among his best-known works and is heard on Bon Voyage! (MD 3185).
The violin showpiece Guitarre, Op. 45 No. 2, appears in arrangement on Cafe Fiddle (TP189). Larger scores include two piano concertos, a violin concerto, orchestral suites, the opera Boabdil and the ballet Laurin. His fifteen Études de Virtuosité, Op. 72, still challenge virtuoso pianists.
