Moses Hogan
Moses Hogan (1957–2003) was an American composer, arranger and conductor best known for his settings of African-American spirituals. His choral arrangements remain central to the concert repertoire.
A pianist of competition standing, he turned increasingly to choral arranging and founded ensembles devoted to the spiritual tradition. His published settings—among them Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel?, I Want Jesus to Walk with Me, Abide with Me and My Soul’s Been Anchored in the Lord—are sung widely by school, church and professional choirs.
On this label his arrangements close the sacred programme on Soul (MCD 523) and supply several spirituals on Laughing (MD 3306).
