Robert Macindoe
Robert Macindoe is an Australian violinist associated with the Petra String Quartet, the Tasmanian Conservatorium ensemble that made Australian chamber music its focus.
With the Petra String Quartet he recorded Barry Conyngham’s first string quartet and George Tibbits’ second, works written for the Albert H. Maggs Award and premiered together in Melbourne in 1979. The programme appears on Petra String Quartet plays Conyngham and Tibbits (MD 3037).
He also plays violin on the Academy of Melbourne’s Horn Concertos (TP042), a Hawthorn Town Hall programme of concertos by Haydn, Förster, Telemann and Teyber.
Performing as Petra String Quartet
Now defunct, the Petra String Quartet was formed in 1977 from graduates of the Tasmanian Conservatorium and focused on Australian compositions. They toured the eastern states, then Europe in 1980.
