Samuel Wesley wrote organ music that still sits naturally on historic instruments: an Air for the Organ, a Fantasy, and a Duet for four hands that holds its place beside Handel and Mozart in recital programmes.
The Air and Fantasy appear in programmes built around older church organs, where their clear lines and modest scale suit the instruments rather than overwhelm them. The Duet for Organ belongs to the four-hand literature, written for two players at one console and shaped for real ensemble rather than display. Across these pieces the writing is direct, practical, and made for the organ’s own voice.
