Tilman Hoppstock
Tilman Hoppstock (born 1961) is a German classical guitarist, cellist and musicologist. A recitalist and teacher based in Darmstadt, he also publishes arrangements and original works for guitar.
His concert career began in 1978 and has taken him to some forty countries. He studied guitar and cello in Darmstadt and Cologne, and teaches international guitar classes at the Akademie für Tonkunst Darmstadt. In 2013 he received the Darmstadt Music Award for his work as guitarist, teacher, musicologist and publisher; the following year he completed a doctorate on polyphony in Bach’s lute fugues.
On Move he appears as arranger. His resourceful transcription of movements from Bach’s Keyboard Partita no. 1 is heard on Impulses (MCD 645), and his duo arrangement of Alexandre Tansman’s Variations on a Theme of Scriabin closes Contra (MCD 644).
