Eric Gross

Eric Gross (1926–2011) was an Austrian-born Australian composer, pianist and teacher. After settling in Sydney in 1958 he wrote concert, film and broadcast music marked by a cosmopolitan ear and a lasting fondness for jazz.

Eric Gross was born in Vienna and settled in Sydney in 1958. From the age of fourteen he played piano in clubs and bars to support himself. That practical start stayed with him: his compositional philosophy was to write music that would firstly convince its performers before it could convince its audience.
