Alain Boublil
Alain Boublil (born 1941) is a French musical-theatre lyricist and librettist, best known for the book and lyrics of Les Misérables and other internationally staged musicals.
Born in Tunisia to a Sephardic Jewish family, he made his name in France with the rock opera La Révolution Française (1973). Les Misérables opened in Paris in 1980 and, in English-language production from 1985, became one of the most widely seen musicals in the world. Later stage works include Miss Saigon, Martin Guerre, The Pirate Queen, and Marguerite. His songs from Les Misérables appear on Australian recordings such as Pot-Pourri’s Silver (MCD 459).
