Alfred Ernest Floyd

Alfred Ernest Floyd's sacred writing serves the church year and the organ loft: the carol Cold and Dark is Holy Night, Church Preludes for small instruments, and hymnody from Advent through All Saints.

An Extemporisation on disc captures the improvising organist behind the written page, and a spoken introduction frames a Melbourne Town Hall recital. His Church Preludes sit among miniatures composed for modest pipe organs and harmoniums, pieces that sound complete without a cathedral specification. Cold and Dark is Holy Night joins the rarer carols: spare, seasonal writing that holds its place beside the old favourites.
