Banjo Paterson
Banjo Paterson (1864–1941) was an Australian bush poet, journalist and author whose ballads helped define colonial Australian identity. His 1895 song Waltzing Matilda is widely regarded as Australia’s unofficial national anthem.
His best-known verses include The Man from Snowy River and Clancy of the Overflow, and his bush songs remain central to the Australian folk repertoire.
On Move he is credited as songwriter and composer within that tradition, including on The Fair Dinkum Matilda (MD 3175), which presents the first recording of the original Craigielea setting of Waltzing Matilda alongside other bush songs, and on Australian Folksongs… Now! (MD 3095).
