Deidre Rubenstein
Deidre Rubenstein is the vocalist on Michael Easton's songs from the one-woman show Dorothy Parker Says, bringing an actor's phrasing and dry comic sense to Parker's lines within a survey of the composer's chamber and vocal music.
A screen and theatre actor, she has long worked with text meant to be heard live. Solo programmes have drawn on contemporary Australian poetry and on pieces she commissioned from writers including Andrew Bovell, Joanna Murray-Smith and Debra Oswald for the stage. She has also built a substantial practice as a narrator of audiobooks, another form of performance built for the ear.
