Fritz Kreisler

Fritz Kreisler's violin miniatures and arrangements pour Viennese charm into the encore repertoire: Liebesleid and Liebesfreud, Caprice Viennois, and those sly pastiches that sound like rediscovered baroque gems.

He wrote for the violin as a singer writes for the voice: short pieces built for warmth, sliding portamento and free rubato. Beside the famous waltzes sit arrangements of Corelli, Gluck, Dvořák and Spanish dances, and original works cast in the style of Tartini or Pugnani. The music wants elegance and sensuality more than bare display, and it still sets the temperature of a salon encore.
