Graeme Morton
Graeme Morton shapes choral programmes that move from late medieval and Renaissance canons to contemporary Australian sacred works, drawing a serene, resonant sound from chamber choirs in cathedral acoustic.
As director of the Brisbane Chamber Choir he has commissioned and recorded Australian sacred music for liturgical and concert use, among it Ross Edwards’s contemplative Mass of the Dreaming and settings by Andrew Schultz, Stephen Leek, Paul Stanhope and others. The singing favours blend, poise and the long glow of a large church space rather than display. With university chamber singers he turns to the canonic repertoire of the fourteenth to early seventeenth centuries, music built on staggered entries of a shared melody for prayer, amusement and craft.
