Joseph Twist

Joseph Twist composes across choral, orchestral, stage and screen music. Sacred settings and concert works sit alongside film and television scores, with a steady focus on voices, text and liturgical colour.

His Lamentation of Jeremiah sits among recent Australian sacred works for choir, music shaped for liturgical use and cathedral resonance. Twist also works in opera, orchestral music, jazz, musical theatre and cabaret, and has composed and arranged for film and television. Concert pieces are taken up by professional ensembles; the writing keeps text and vocal colour to the fore whether the brief is plainchant, contemporary poetry or the screen.

Luminescence

Light is integral to colour, and musical integrity is often described in terms of its colour or luminescence. Celebrating Canticum's 21st birthday year, composers were sought whose music reflects a particular sensitivity to the versatility of the choral instrument and which celebrates beautiful text.
