Lyle Chan

Lyle Chan is an Australian composer known for cumulative works with only one composition per genre. His music often functions as diary or memoir, most fully in the long autobiographical string quartet known as the AIDS Memoir Quartet.

These cumulative pieces carry highly abstract titles such as Solo Piano and String Quartet, each built from self-contained sections. The quartet material covering 1991 to 1996 forms the AIDS Memoir Quartet, which chronicles his years as an HIV/AIDS activist at the height of the epidemic in Australia.

On Muse (MCD 587) he contributes Three Bilitis Movements for tenor recorder and string quartet.

He spent more than a decade as Artists & Repertoire Manager for ABC Classics and is regarded as an authority on John Cage.
