Mal Cunningham
Mal Cunningham is a flautist, piccolo and recorder player whose studio work ranges from gentle jazz colour to ethereal, overdubbed improvisation. A teacher of yoga and meditation, his flute lines have been noted for their haunting, trance-like quality.
On Meditation (MD 3440) he improvises on overdubbed flutes against chimes, vibes and marimbas. He plays flutes on the reflective programme of Peaceful (MD 3439), and on the double album Uttered Nonsense (The Owl and the Pussycat) (MD 3321) he is credited on recorders, bass flute and piccolo.

Uttered Nonsense (The Owl and the Pussycat) sets eight Edward Lear poems, spoken with grave poise by Ivan Smith, among fourteen instrumental jazz pieces drawn from the Nonsense Books. Sangster’s large Australian ensemble answers the verse with playful colour.
