Mark Knoop
Mark Knoop is an Australian pianist and conductor whose work centres on contemporary music. He is known for performances of formidable modernist scores that combine technical fearlessness with concentrated, unshowy respect for the writing.
His recording of David Lumsdaine: Complete Music for Solo Piano (TP198) gathers works spanning nearly thirty years, from the serial intensity of Kelly Ground and the Bach-inflected meditation Ruhe sanfte, sanfte ruh’ to the birdsong-haunted landscape of Cambewarra and the brief Six Postcard Pieces. The playing has been praised for its virtuosity, cogent precision and refusal of empty display.
He also plays piano, celeste and harmonium on Tuneful Percussion (MD 3222), and conducts on Curiosities (MD 3320).
