Mauro Giuliani
Mauro Giuliani (1781–1829) was an Italian guitarist, cellist and composer, and one of the leading guitar virtuosi of the early Romantic era. His concert works and chamber music helped define a new role for the guitar in European music.
He published widely from Vienna and wrote challenging solo guitar music as well as chamber pieces that pair the guitar with other instruments. The Grande Sonata in A major, Op. 85, is among the finest works in the flute and guitar repertoire—typical of the graceful early nineteenth-century writing that gives the guitar a full chamber voice.
