Paul Hamburger
Paul Hamburger (1920–2004) was a pianist, accompanist and chamber musician, active in Britain as a recital partner, opera coach and teacher.
Born in Vienna, he settled in England before the war and built a career with singers and instrumentalists on the concert platform and on disc. He coached at Glyndebourne and for the BBC, taught at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and appears as pianist on Ian King’s historic Tuba Recital (MD 3226), including the Hindemith sonata and transcriptions from Bach, Handel, Vivaldi and Beethoven.
