Peter Biffin
Peter Biffin is an Australian musician, composer and instrument maker whose work joins improvisation, expanded scale systems and the craft of building new string instruments.
His playing and writing grow from traditional styles of East and West filtered into a personal language of composition and free improvisation. He is known for two instruments of his own design: the tar-hu, a long-necked bowed instrument with sympathetic strings, and the deboosh, a large fretless dobro guitar.
As half of the duo Nardoo he appears on Nardoo (MD 3188), a set of original improvisations that draw on jazz, ethnic and medieval colours. He has also performed as a soloist and made instruments for musicians in several fields.
