Pierre Petit

Pierre Petit (1922–2000) was a French composer of operas, ballets, concertos, chamber music and songs. Move recordings include his piano suite Rome, l’unique objet … and the Toccata.

Written in 1946, the year he took the Prix de Rome, Rome, l’unique objet … evokes places around the Villa Medici and the Borghese Gardens in four movements: Pincio Hill, Néréïdes, San Carlo and Galoppatoio. It is heard on Carpe Diem: Piano Music from Italy (MD 3410).

His Toccata appears among twentieth-century works arranged for two guitars on …a little z.o.o. (MCD 108).

Carpe Diem: Piano Music from Italy

This recording celebrates Italy, and Rome above all, as a lasting place of artistic pilgrimage and inspiration. Italian-themed solo piano works frame the premiere of Michael Kieran Harvey’s Carpe Diem (2015).
