Rudolf Osadnik brings a keen, responsive violin line to chamber works and film scores alike, from the conversational cut and thrust of Peter Tahourdin’s Dialogues to the haunting solos that thread through Cezary Skubiszewski’s orchestral soundtracks.
As leader of strings he steadies the ensemble colour that lets a score move from Irish airs and forties jazz to bossa and hip hop without losing its centre. On Tahourdin’s chamber programme he joins a tight circle of contemporary players in music shaped by raga procedure, medieval song and the give-and-take of real conversation, the kind of writing that asks for virtuosity and care in equal measure. With the Academy of Melbourne he sits inside horn concertos by Haydn, Telemann, Förster and Teyber, the violin section a clear classical partner to the solo horn.
