Sammy Cahn wrote the romantic film and Broadway lyrics that became jazz standards, from Let It Snow to Come Fly with Me and I Fall in Love Too Easily. His words still give singers and pianists room to swing and linger.
An American lyricist who worked with Jule Styne, Jimmy Van Heusen and others, Cahn shaped songs that recording artists and club players keep returning to. The lines are built for the voice: clear, singable, and finished with a vaudeville punch that invites applause. Sinatra made many of them famous; on these discs they surface in intimate jazz settings, where a standard such as I Should Care or Come Fly with Me sits beside originals and other repertoire. The craft is in the phrasing and the hook, not in ornament for its own sake.
