On easy-listening classical selections with the Melbourne Mandolin Orchestra he is the soloist whose playing already drew comparison with the greats, a tomorrow’s virtuoso with today’s attitude. In live Melbourne Recital Centre sessions he joins cello and piano for freely expressive takes on Bach-derived waltzes and Jobim, the guitar adding welcome colour without weight. With oboe he partners in Shaun Rigney’s End Point, one more strand in a body of work that moves easily between plucked-orchestra brilliance, sophisticated late-night listening and new Australian chamber writing.
