William Lovelock
William Lovelock wrote accessible concertos, choral pieces and chamber music with a romantic bent, favouring entertainment over abstraction. His catalogue includes works shaped for Australian performers and instruments that rarely get a solo outing.
His output ranges from large orchestral, choral and band scores to teaching pieces for children, with fourteen concertos among them. The Trumpet Concerto written for John Robertson remains his most played work. Elsewhere he filled gaps in the solo repertoire for tuba, double bass and xylophone. On record his voice sits among Australian chamber and seasonal programmes, including the carol I Saw a Light.
