Milica Ilic [pronounced Mel-itza Ill-itch] is a classical guitarist whose music is vibrant, colourful, impassioned and distinctly her own. In 2002, when she was just 20, her dazzling musicality and stage presence brought an invitation from the great tenor José Carreras to take part in his birthday celebration concert at Angkor Wat in Cambodia. That performance, like many since, was warmly received and critically acclaimed.

She is a skilled interpreter of the standard classical repertoire, yet from an early age she understood that technique is more than a means to replicate familiar material. For her it unlocks expression, connecting performance to shared sensation, emotion, memory and aspiration. In her mid-twenties she already had a wealth of vivid experience to draw on. From that springs music that is fiery and beautiful, tender, uplifting and intimate.

Stir the Sky is in essence an autobiographical statement. Like her debut Rouge Guitar, it marks a stage in a journey from Bosnia, where she spent her childhood, through Australia, where she grew up and studied guitar, to London, then home for her music.

Mostly her own compositions, the disc is pervaded with places visited and people met, with movement and music-making, and with love, laughter, fond memory and bittersweet recollection. Each track is like a journal extract offered for sharing.

She has toured extensively in Australia, Asia and Europe. In 2005 she performed at international guitar festivals in Darwin, Ullapool, Kirkmichael and Ards, and as special guest at a Windsor festival hosted by Tommy Emmanuel. In 2003 she was guest soloist at An Unforgettable Evening – José Carreras in Concert in Perth. The year before she had accompanied Carreras in Singapore and at Angkor Wat, and appeared as featured soloist with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
