With a programme of entirely original pieces, Game-Lopata blends contemporary jazz, improvisation and classical techniques of composition, both modern and traditional.
She experiments with harmony and rhythm, with forms such as the sonata, and with instruments as diverse as the Middle Eastern darabuka, Jamaican steel drum and marimba. The result is a sound that is fresh, new and distinctly Australian.
In the artist’s words
My pieces bring together contemporary jazz, improvisation and classical techniques of composition both modern and traditional. I enjoy experimenting with harmony and rhythms and composing for an exciting range of instruments from the tantalising Middle Eastern darabuka to the subtle marimba. This vibrant combination breathes new life into each of the individual forms, creating a sound that is new and particularly Australian.

(Leon Gettler, The Age 'Green Guide') With improvisation qualifications from the Victorian College of the Arts and armed with a composition masters from Monash University, Jenny Game-Lopata is a formidable talent in the Melbourne jazz scene, performing her own works, playing soprano and tenor saxophones was well as leading her own ensemble.
