Ariel Valent’s vibraphone colours ambient soundscapes and baroque-jazz crossovers alike, whether co-writing Invention in Time pieces that drift like tide and light or locking into a rhythm section under Elizabeth Anderson’s harpsichord.
With Kate Adam he shapes slow, luminous rooms: Summer Waves, Walking on a Sea of Moonstone and The Wisdom of Bones sit under Dean Frenkel’s harmonic vocals on Ambient Voice, metal shimmer meeting overtones until the mix feels tidal. On Cosmosis the same mallets answer throat singing and a children’s choir in Land of Waves and Alchemy, space and resonance doing as much work as melody. Elsewhere he joins bass and drums for Anderson’s More Bizarre or baRock, swinging through Bach, Brubeck and boogie without losing that cool, open attack. The playing is unhurried and exact, built for listening rooms that want atmosphere over display.
