Atanas Ourkouzounov
Atanas Ourkouzounov is a Bulgarian composer whose guitar writing draws on folk rhythm, dance energy and a contemporary classical language. His work is heard on Australian recordings of recent chamber and duo repertoire.
His Sonatina Bulgarica for violin and guitar is marked by driving Bulgarian rhythms and microtonal inflection. It opens the Move programme d'aujourd'hui (MD 3323), a set of recent works that moves between folk-inflected modern writing, miniature character pieces and tango.
His music also appears on the guitar duo album Fluid Lines (MD 3355), which presents an eclectic mix of Bulgarian, Australian and American composers and includes the dance-like Horo.
