Georg Böhm
Georg Böhm (1661–1733) was a German Baroque organist and composer, noted for keyboard works and for developing the chorale partita.
He served as organist of the Johanniskirche in Lüneburg from 1698 until his death. His preludes, fugues and partitas were often written so they could be played on organ, harpsichord or clavichord, and he made distinctive use of the improvisatory stylus phantasticus.
His most lasting contribution was the chorale partita: extended variation sets on chorale melodies, later taken up by others. On this label his music appears in organ and keyboard programmes, among them the chorale prelude Vater unser im Himmelreich, variations on Ach wie nichtig, ach wie flüchtig, and a menuet copied into Anna Magdalena Bach’s notebook.
