György Ligeti
György Ligeti (1923–2006) was a Hungarian-born composer of contemporary classical music, among the most innovative avant-garde figures of the later twentieth century.
After leaving Hungary in 1956 he developed the dense interlocking textures he called micropolyphony, and later turned toward intricate polyrhythm. Two of his harpsichord works are heard on Move’s exploratory baRock programmes: the chaconne-like Hungarian Rock on Bizarre or baRock (MD 3179) and the motoric study Continuum on More Bizarre or baRock (MD 3326).
