James Fulkerson
James Fulkerson composes chamber, stage, electroacoustic and multimedia works and plays trombone in experimental music. His Music for Brass Instruments III is concentrated brass writing; as a player he has drawn more than two hundred new pieces and leads ensembles at the edge of the notated score.
He founded the Barton Workshop to perform contemporary music on the leading edge, including works that are not notated. The group has worked closely with composers such as Alvin Lucier, Christian Wolff, Philip Corner and Frank Denyer, and has given premières of scores by Henryk Górecki, Jerry Hunt, Ernstalbrecht Stiebler and Galina Ustvolskaya. On disc his trombone sits in chamber programmes that set Xenakis beside new writing from Australia and New Zealand.

Victorian Time Machine
The Victorian Time Machine, directed by Richard David Hames, grew out of the Victorian College of the Arts as an instrumental and vocal ensemble for new music. This 1979 programme pairs Guillaume Dufay with works by Hames, Barry Conyngham and James Fulkerson.
