Jay Livingston
Jay Livingston (1915–2001) was an American popular-song and film composer. His Oscar-winning melodies, including Mona Lisa, Que Sera, Sera and Silver Bells, became lasting standards of mid-century Hollywood songwriting.
Working across film and television, he wrote music for songs that won three Academy Awards for Best Original Song and entered everyday repertoire far beyond the screen.
Among the best-known titles are Mona Lisa, Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be), the Christmas song Silver Bells, and Tammy. Those melodies continue to appear in new chamber and jazz settings, including Australian recordings on Move such as the flute-and-harp programme A Golden Christmas (MD 3169) and later song albums with piano and ensemble.
